Abstract
An Italian group of experts has developed a nested-storable, divisible and transportable canoe: the first single seated Va’a (Polynesian canoe) whose hull can be divided into three parts and compact nested into a portable trolley for storage and transportation.
Developers are interested in both manufacturing and technical cooperation agreements.
Description
The product developed in Italy is the first divisible, nested-storable and transportable Polynesian canoe in the world. The product represents the synthesis of modern technology and design based on traditional Polynesian knowledge and construction. Polynesian canoe (Va’a type) is a particular canoe composed by a central hull attached to a floater fixed to the hull by two lateral appendages.
The Italian product is the first single seated Va’a, whose hull can be divided into three parts and compact nested into a portable trolley for storage and transportation. Total length under 3 meters enables aerial transport as extra luggage.
The product represents a recognized racing canoe (international canoe federation) and it is explicitly designed to facilitate canoeing for people with disabilities.
Concept, and Design are made in Italy by renown experts in the nautical field. All materials are innovative and conceived in detail to meet the specific needs of any athlete.
Two different types of construction are possible:
- "extreme" construction, made with carbon and kevlar fibre. Suitable for high-level paddler (racing), for professional paddler with disabilities as well.
- "racing plus" construction, made with carbon and glass fibre. Heavier and easier model, cheaper, suitable for learning activities and for person with disabilities who paddles for the first time
