Abstract

A Spanish University, working on the impact characterization of non-invasive transcranial electrical stimulation in the development of various neuropsychological pathologies to improve current stimulation protocols, is looking for partners to develop treatment solutions under a commercial or technical cooperation agreement.

Description

A Spanish scientific team, integrated into an experimental laboratory of Psychology, Neuropsychology And Cognitive Neuroscience of an University, addresses the characterization of the impact of non-invasive transcranial electrical stimulation in the development of various neuropsychological pathologies, related to the technique, the polarity of the applied current and the appearance of long-term effects, with the aim of improving the stimulation protocols currently used in the treatment of various mental illnesses.
The team leader has more than 10 years of experience in analyzing and modeling this type of non-invasive transcranial stimulation techniques, with three main variants of tES: transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), alternating current stimulation (tACS), and random noise stimulation (tRNS). Although the type of technology in each of them is different, they share common elements such as weak currents (typically below 2 mA) with power below ~ 100 Hz (relatively low frequencies).
The application of tDCS has great scientific evidence, its origin being the field of psychiatry and psychology. In recent years, the evidence in the field of pain and motor disorders has positioned it as an applicable technique in physiotherapy.
The main fields of application of this technique are: Chronic neuropathic pain, Chronic Pain, Motor disorders caused by neurological injuries such as those derived from cerebrovascular accident (STROKE) or others, Motor rehabilitation (neuromotor learning), Migraines, attention deficits, depression, anxiety, addictions.
The team is willing to collaborate with R&D centers and start-ups to commercially develop treatment solutions (hardware and software) based on developed stimulation protocols under a commercial or technical cooperation agreement.
