Abstract

A Spanish multidisciplinary university has developed a new device that allows to replicate in vivo the clinical conditions of application of percutaneous electrolysis using in vitro needles, effectively separating the cathodic (therapeutic) effects from those produced at the anode. It allows to carry out controlled tests on different microorganisms, cells or tissues, simulating specific clinical conditions with the use of different types of needles. They seek a license agreement.

Description

A Spanish multidisciplinary university has developed a new device that allows to replicate in vivo the clinical conditions of application of percutaneous electrolysis using in vitro needles, effectively separating the cathodic (therapeutic) effects from those produced at the anode. This new device overcomes several disadvantages of current methods. To reproduce the clinical conditions for the application of this technique on real samples, are necessary new in vitro models that represent an advance on the currently existing options, among which the application of galvanic current is included in classic culture wells, but given its dimensions and the fact that the anode and cathode are in the same medium, they do not make it a viable alternative.

Technically, the device is characterized by its simplicity. It has an upper piece that supports a variable number of needles that act as cathode in the electrolysis process. The needle-holder part slides perpendicular to a base, which in turn accommodates a variable number of receptacles where the sample to be analyzed is deposited in a liquid medium and which are capable of isolating the cathodic effects of galvanic current applied.

Each receptacle has a metal screw in its lower part that is connected to an external electrolysis equipment that generates galvanic current, which allows it to act as an anode in the galvanic electrolysis procedure. In their intermediate part, the receptacles have a narrowing that allows the coupling of a ceramic filter.

Once the test is carried out, the culture medium is extracted and analyzed to see the results of the current on it.

The device, designed and developed by researchers at the Spanish university, has a functional prototype, experimentally contrasted. Researchers have verified that treatment with these types of currents accelerates the healing of mammary fistulas and, furthermore, with the help of the device it has also been possible to demonstrate that the inoculated current under certain conditions has bactericidal power.

The research group author of the invention seeks a collaboration that leads to a commercial exploitation of the invention. The ideal scenario for the University would be to reach an agreement to transfer the use of the technology through the sale or a license (exclusive or non-exclusive) of the patented device. However, the form, terms and conditions of the collaboration can be openly discussed if the technology presented is of interest. In addition, the research group author of the invention, offers scientific technical advice for the validation and commercial optimization of the device as a part of the license agreement
